Welsh National Opera
9 Jun, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 22 Jul, 2020 @ 7:30 pm
Roger will work with Welsh National Opera for the first time this summer. Roger will cover the role of 1st Japanese Emissary in Stravinsky’s, The Nightingale. Welsh National Opera present a contrasting double bill: the enchanting fairy tale, The Nightingale and the dark and menacing story of Bluebeard’s Castle, both conducted by WNO Music Director, Tomáš Hanus.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, The Nightingale will be brought to life by eight singers, 11 puppeteers and a cast of fabulous life-sized puppets. Stravinsky’s sweeping score underpins the narrative exploring the true power of music.
This is followed by Bartók’s brooding opera Bluebeard’s Castle that sees Sir Bryn Terfel return to the Company as Duke Bluebeard alongside Michelle DeYoung as Judith. This new production will feature a video-projected set to draw you into the dystopian world of Bluebeard’s Castle where murder and marriage go hand in hand.
